The BCM2711 chip that we use on Raspberry Pi 4 can address up to 16GB of LPDDR4 SDRAM, so the real barrier to our offering a larger-memory variant was the lack of an 8GB LPDDR4 package. These didn’t exist (at least in a form that we could address) in 2019, but happily our partners at Micron stepped up earlier this year with a suitable part. And so, today, we’re delighted to announce the immediate availability of the 8GB Raspberry Pi 4, priced at just $75.

To see and install these optional fonts, open the FontBook application and switch to “All Fonts”. Browse the font list and you will see lots of font families that are greyed out—either because they were deactivated or they weren’t downloaded yet. If you right-click on a font or font family that wasn’t downloaded yet, you see an option to download the individual font or entire family.

One way to solve the delays is to disable your internet connection. This is tough medicine, but if you notice these delays, try it for an hour just to verify that indeed the issue is resolved by disabling internet connectivity.

Another way to reduce the delays is by disabling System Integrity Protection. I say reduce, because I still do get some delays even with SIP disabled, but the system does overall feel much faster, and I would strongly recommend anyone who thinks their system is sluggish to do the same.

Meine Frau erlebt es mit ihrem brandneuen 13" MacBook Pro, mein Vater mit seinem brandneuen MacBook Air und ich mit meinem vorjährigen 16" MacBook Pro: Maus und Tastatur-Stillstände, Kleinstprogramme brauchen ewig zum Starten, interner Netzwerkverkehr auf 56K-Modem-Niveau. So langsam werden Macs aus 2015 mit älterem Betriebsystemversionen wieder attraktiv, weil schneller als der neueste heiße Scheiß.

This afternoon, I wanted to see how much disk space I had left on the server that runs this blog. As is often the case with Unix/Linux commands, after I getting the needed information, I started thinking about other ways to do things. And, as is also often the case, I learned something new.
